Knowing the Gift (3)- True Identity in God

Who am I?

That’s a perennial question we get and simple it may be, oft one we sometimes struggle to find an answer to.

Today, some friends from the Landings Community shared a mime with us. No word was spoken, just praising God with a song and action. Empowering and something the community should definitely try that one day! Leo, our speaker for today, started the session by conducting a straw poll on who we are. A myriad of answers came up on the screen- Mother, Dad, Confused Soul, Shepherd, Follower, God’s Servant, Child of God, Sister…

St Thomas Aquinas named these 4 substitutes to true joy- Wealth, Pleasure, Honour and Power.  Much as we know that we need God, many a time we try to feel the void in our lives with some combination of these four things. However, when the Kingdom of God becomes our main focus, not only will we not become addicted to material things, we’ll be able to use them effectively for God’s purpose.

Leo then shared who God says we are: A Child of God, who is wise and restored, a beautiful creation, a brand new creation, chosen and never alone, a masterpiece made complete and loved.

“May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.” -1 Thessalonians 3:12
